Introduction to BASE Jumping
BASE Jumping is one of the most popular destinations in extreme sports. The essence of BASE jumping is jumping from a fixed (immovable) object. To do it, you must use a special parachute.
The main objects from which basejumpers jump (or abbreviated as “basers”) are buildings, floors, bridges, antennas or rocks.
This sport belongs to the types of parachutism and is considered the most dangerous of all its varieties. This sporting trends are considered extremely extreme. When performing jumps, there is a real threat to the health and life of an athlete, because the time for a BASE jump lasts less than a minute, and in the event of the first parachute failing to open the second time, the athlete practically does not remain. It is not for nothing that professionals in this sport always warn beginners about the enormous risk and inadmissibility of self-study. Making jumps and teaching new skills should take place exclusively under the guidance of an experienced baser, otherwise the consequences of such amateur activities can be extremely deplorable.
The technique of performing the jumps is as follows: the basejumper climbs a mountain, a rock or a high-rise building, preferably a skyscraper, puts on the necessary equipment and jumps down.
It should be noted that so far in the territory of the Russian Federation there are practically no legal clubs that would specialize in this particular extreme direction. Moreover, in accordance with the country’s Criminal Code, such activities as jumping from a high-rise building or structure qualify as disorderly conduct and entail serious punishment.
If you have firmly decided to master parachuting, then you probably already had time to appreciate his fascination and the unique feeling of flying. It is not easy to learn all the subtleties of this sport, however, your reward will be an indescribable feeling, confidence in yourself and the ability to truly feel the flight. However, there are some difficult issues in this sporting direction, which sooner or later will face any newcomer one of the most common – the question of choosing your own equipment. When should a novice athlete think about buying his own parachute? Perhaps it is better to wait at least until you gain enough experience and can no longer “limit” yourself with the equipment used for training? Is it possible to modify the parachute for a beginner? Where can I order it on an individual project?
Experts believe that, as a rule, it is better if a novice athlete uses a “starter” parachute with a DZ mechanism until he or she moves from a larger “student” outfit to a smaller one, since the launch parachutes are sized to fit the main training objectives. Here the same rules apply as in any other sport. For example, if you are skiing, you know that it makes sense to rent smaller skis until you have the ability to handle larger ones. It also makes sense to study with rental equipment, and not with new material, because beginners tend to wear more equipment than more experienced jumpers. Do not buy equipment until you complete the basic course. In addition, when calculating the training budget, it is better to spend money on jumping than on equipment, so that you can gain experience as quickly as possible.
