How to prepare for the jump

For all beginners, the path to the first jump is the same – through the school of parachuting.

Such schools exist in large numbers, anyone can study there.

Some clubs will offer you, instead of long classes, express training – a short briefing on the field before the jump. True, many serious professionals consider such “field” training at an aerodrome insufficient. After all, the future skydiver should not only know how and what to do during the jump, but also polish the necessary skills to automatism, and this is possible only during training in the gym and on a mock parachute suspension system. In other schools you will cook more than one day. Everything is rehearsed until each parachutist candidate performs “excellent” and separation from the aircraft, and disabling the reserve parachute (so that it does not interfere with the main one), and landing. Particular attention – emergency situations, such as landing on a tree.

Today, there are three most common options for serious preparation for the jump.

The rule for all training programs is that they move to the next stage only when the student has fully mastered the previous one. In this case, nothing depends on the number of jumps.

Training in the classical program

In Soviet times, in numerous schools, DOSAAF (now ROSTO) was taught only by this method, the most common and cheap to this day.

The first jumps in this program start from a height of 800 meters using forced parachute deployment. As you continue to progress in learning, a student learns the skills necessary for a parachutist, including learning to independently open a parachute. As a result of training in this program, a person is sufficiently prepared to start learning jumps on a guided “wing” parachute. To complete this program, it may take from 25 to 45 jumps, depending on the abilities of the student.

It differs from the classical program in that from the very beginning jumps are carried out with a guided “wing” parachute. This parachute, however, is specially prepared taking into account the fact that a beginner will jump with him, he is more stable, etc. As in the classics, the first jumps are carried out with the use of forced opening of the parachute.

Nevertheless, many experts seriously doubt the need for this program, so most schools will not meet it. The main reason is the insecurity of this technique. Parachutes like “wing” require opening in the correct posture, and it is very difficult to teach this person on earth who never jumped. Therefore, a large number of emergency situations occurred for students enrolled in this program, for example, people got entangled in slings during the parachute opening.

The most effective and safe program.

With sufficient student abilities, it can be completed in a week. One of the differences is that the student is very intensively trained on the ground. Another difference is that two instructors jump from the very first jump along with the newcomer. In the air, they control and secure it. This allows you to use a wing-type parachute from the very first jumps and jump from a height of 3500-4000 meters. After the parachute is opened, the student’s actions are monitored from the ground by radio. As practice shows, this program takes place for a smaller number of jumps – from 8 to 15.

By the way, preparing for a tandem jump (including putting on a harness) takes from 5 to 15 minutes, you will hardly need theoretical knowledge, because in fact, an instructor is responsible for everything.
