BASE FAQ, or why not jump

1. Q: I already have 100 jumps with AH-2 and one with MI-8! How can I install PO-9 series 2 to jump from the roof of the neighboring 22-floor building?
A: if possible neatly. But it does not matter, it still does not open.

2. Q: I don’t jump at all. I’m just curious – why is this all?
A: I do not know. If anyone can explain it, I’ll go to nirvana.

3. Q: What is the difference between jumping from a plane and BASE?
A: these are two different sports. IMHO Differences:

Psychological:

BASE jumping acts on the brain as the strongest psychedelic. The hundredth BASE jump causes the same sensations as the first jump from an airplane. You get used to jumping from an airplane, fear quickly disappears.

BASE causes unconscious, animal horror regardless of the number of jumps. The night jump from the antenna surpasses any situation or drug I have experienced in the impact on the brain.

BASE makes you control abnormally high levels of fear and emotions, think rationally under the most severe stress and get pleasure from it all.

BASE acts as a filter – standing on the edge, unusually clearly separates the things that are important to you in this life and husk.

BASE is about what’s going on in the head. What is outside is secondary. Simply put, BASE is a psychological (psychedelic) sport, airplane jumps are technical.

Physical:

In both cases, we jump with a parachute. On this similarity in most cases ends. Jumping from an airplane, we have enough height and time for entertainment, a soft opening of the main, calm assessment of the situation, uncoupling and opening of the reserve. More importantly, we have clean air around – all that is needed to save life is an open dome, where and how it flies in general is not important. Next, we have a huge field for landing, the opportunity to hang out on it after landing, and even the doctor just in case.

Now BASE jump: height varies from 50 to ~ 1500 meters, which completely changes the approach to the projectile, bag, equipment, etc. In most cases, jumping somewhere in the range of 100..300 meters, there is simply no height for the reserve.

The tendency to open below the minimum height of the reserve exists even at high jumps, therefore, in general, BASE jump = one dome.
Time: a typical opening from a 800m plane leaves 16 seconds to think and act. A typical opening for a BASE jump occurs
2..5 seconds before the collision with the ground / object.

The main, determining the difference between aircraft and BASE jumps: the presence of the object. Instead of clean air in the fall and at the time of disclosure, we have a more or less narrow sector of space, the exit of which is equivalent to a collision with an object. Such a collision almost always leads to severe injuries or death. Of the ~ 40 corpses in the history of sports, more than half died after hitting an object.

!!! Facing an object is the main danger when jumping from it!
