The fact is that the parachute seller must himself be a famous and experienced skydiver with at least 1000 jumps behind him. Since the seller is indirectly responsible for the safety of the client: for example, there are several companies whose products Alex strongly recommends against buying. “To sell a very fast parachute to a very well-known and respected western company to an inexperienced skydiver means to send him to a hospital bed or to the morgue,” Mr. Sharadkin is convinced, “it’s the seller who should assess the adequacy of the parachute’s choice for his experience.” Trade in parachute equipment provides an average profitability of 25%.
To increase revenue, in addition to selling various things that are necessary and simply useful for a parachutist, most dealers also earn money on related services. For example, SkyWideSystems provides its customers with 15 additional services, including training on how to set up parachutes, wash a pack, install a safety device, and much more. By the way, only specially trained and certified by the manufacturer of parachute equipment people – riggers have the right to lay down a spare parachute and install an insurance device. In addition to laying and repacking a spare parachute (every three to four months, according to the safety requirements of the RFP, they must be redefined), they can also repair equipment and, after consultation with the manufacturer, make some modifications to the system design.
The cost of rigger services ranges from $ 5 to $ 200, depending on the complexity of the work, as if not so little. However, Aleksey Sharadkin says that the money received from the rigging services is barely enough to pay for the rent of the premises and cover current expenses. “The number of skydivers regularly jumping on Kiev DZs hardly exceeds a thousand people. In order for the rigging workshop to bring a stable and noticeable income, you need at least three times more, and even then, provided that it has no competitors,” the expert believes. Accordingly, it is impossible to rely only on the creation of a parachute workshop. She will not bring a stable income. Repair equipment it makes sense to offer only in conjunction with other services.
However, SWS is engaged not only in the sale and maintenance of parachute equipment. The company plans to develop and manufacture backpacks for skydiving and BASE (jumping from fixed objects). According to the entrepreneur, he began to design the backpacks “for the soul”, without worrying too much about commercial gain. Initial investments for the production of satchels are small – $ 5-7 thousand for the purchase of equipment and about $ 2 thousand for materials. Fixed assets will have to be invested in the following stages:
· Testing of manufactured equipment for compliance with standards;
· For trial operation (on each knapsack before the start of mass production at least 300 jumps must be made);
· For ETSO European certification.
The total budget of the project may exceed $ 20-30 thousand. At the same time the price of the knapsack should not exceed $ 1.5 thousand, otherwise there may be difficulties with sales.
